What is Site Control Occupancy?
Site Control Occupancy is a web system that records area movements on a site and shows authorized administrators how many people are currently recorded in each area. A person scans a QR code, confirms the move, and the service updates that person’s current area. Occupancy is then counted from those current areas.
Site Users do not log in with a password. They use a phone browser. Administrators use a separate login, with roles that limit who can change settings and who can only view occupancy.
Why the system was created
Construction sites and similar workplaces need a simple occupancy record that can keep up with people moving between floors. Asking every worker, visitor, and consultant to install an app is slow. Paper lists fall behind as soon as someone forgets to sign. The aim here is a scan that takes a few seconds at a known staircase or landing, then a dashboard that office staff can actually use.
The system was also designed so that occupancy is area-based. Knowing that someone is “on site” is often not enough. It is more useful to know whether they were last recorded on Ground Floor, B2, or B3.
The design philosophy
The product choices follow a few constraints that show up on real sites.
- Simple QR interaction. A code is printed and placed where the movement happens. The person does not have to search for a menu in an app.
- No app installation. Safari or Chrome is enough. That matters for visitors and for shared site phones.
- Low user friction. Returning users can be recognized on the same browser. New users enter Name, Company, and Mobile Number once.
- Area-based occupancy. Counts come from each person’s current area after a confirmed movement, not from a single IN/OUT switch.
- Browser-based access. Identification uses a token stored in the browser when storage is available. It is not a hardware identifier.
- Privacy-conscious design. Public users cannot see another person’s full Mobile Number. Recovery candidates are masked. Consent to the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use is recorded by version.
- Administrative access control. Viewer, Admin, and Super Admin roles separate read access from operational changes and from administrator management.
Who can use it?
Site User profiles can represent people who are on the site for different reasons. The service includes user types such as Worker, Staff, Client, Consultant, Visitor, and Other. The scan flow is the same: identify the person, confirm the movement, update the current area.
Administrators are a separate group. They sign in to create areas, issue QR points, and review occupancy. Public pages on this website explain the service. They do not expose Site User lists.
What the system is not
Clear limits help people use the occupancy figures without treating them as something they are not.
- It is not GPS tracking.
- It does not continuously track a user’s physical location.
- It relies on QR movement records and user confirmation.
- It should not be treated as the sole emergency accountability system.
